My Problem
So, I had this old iPhone 3G back from 2007 that I gave to my mother, but a couple of years ago I happened to fall while skiing on the Alps and the display got damaged (it had an expanding stripe of broken pixels) by the shock and/or snow getting inside. Apart from that, the battery didn't last as long as new, so I finally decided to take it apart and give it a good fix!
My Fix
Removing the display assembly was really easy, apart from the last cable (I missed the bit of the guide about having to open the plastic clip before removing the cable!). I also found that the right screwdriver to remove the screws was the Philips #000, at least for me (whereas in all guides they recommended a Philips #00). Replacing the battery was much more fiddly, but in the end I made it. If I should do that again, it would be much easier than the first time.
My Advice
Be careful not to break the golden ground pin on the side when removing the motherboard.
My Problem
I bought a used Mini and wanted to upgrade the memory and hard drive
My Fix
The Anti Static mat kept the components safe and gave me a clean smooth are to work on. The Magnetic project mat held all the screws. I really like the printed lines on the mat, I put the tiny screws in a square and wrote down what step they came from and no problem, nothing lost or leftover.
My Advice
Get the iSesamo tool to open the Mini. I used a ground down scraper before and it left some marks on the case. The iSesamo opened the case easier and left no marks.
My Problem
If you're in Media Production, you need RAM. Lots of it, too. Also, if I'm installing the components myself, I want to be safe—can't have my machine failing on me because of a short!
My Fix
Wish I would have bought the largest anti-static mat. Still, I felt safe at least having something to help shield this simple install. It took 15 minutes or so to open, remove, seat, and close up the memory access panel. This was mostly due to my shaky hands.
As for prepping my ESD-safe workspace, there were no directions included with the mat or toolkit. I don't question whether or not I was grounded, but it would be good for everyone to be reminded of how exactly to practice ESD Safety. There should be a one-page guide, at the least, included with every purchase.
If this information is on the iFixit website, I could not locate it.
My Advice
I may have 99 problems, but having too much RAM ain't one.

and on and on and on......

This complete toolset and the Apple repairset are the tools i was searching for. For many years i used screwdrivers and self made plungers, mostly inaffective.
Now with my new toolset it is easy and works nice and fast.

My Problem
Fot its 5th anniversary my model 1176 mini-mac deserved an upgrade. As the RAM could not be extended any more, I chose the 120GB SSD.
Delivery was very fast, ordered in the weekend it arrived from California in the Northern Netherlands the next Wednesday morning.
My Fix
The USB-adapter kit made cloning the drive very easy. As my Mac was reluctant to work with its belly open I needed a laptop to follow the guide, with this it was easier and went faster than I had expected. All went well, I only damaged one of the white notches keeping the enclosure in place, but this gave no problems (enough left).
My Advice
Do not insert the opening tool too far (this broke the notch), follow the guide in this.
The Mac is a lot faster now, I hope/expect I can postpone its retirement for another 5 years.
My Problem
I have gone through hundreds of mini screwdrivers and opening tools, it was about time I got some HQ tools!
My Fix
Without flaw.
My Advice
I was amazed at the quality of the Pro Tech Toolkit, however the tweezers are almost useless. :(
My Problem
A faulty power supply damaged the power in my MacBook air. The MBA was no longer charging with any power supply! A bit of online searching revealed that the MBA has a separate IO sub board, and there was a chance that it was broken and not the whole motherboard.
I used the last of the battery charge to update my backups, then closed the computer down on 19% battery.
My Fix
After ordering a replacement I/O board, late on Friday night local time here in Australia, a replacement and tools were dispatched from California, and arrived by Tuesday afternoon! I love the magnetic project mat BTW, awesome.
I set up with a bright light, static an magnetic mats and all the tools, with my iPad on the iFixit repair guide...
The repair was straightforward
My Advice
Actually this is a pretty simple operation, nothing really stands out, except that the spudger is an awesome tool, everyone should have one. I did notice one thing while closing up, making sure the headphone jack lines up the the case hole *before* tightening the retaining screw, and I was able to add a note to the guide.
My Problem
Only thing was no drill bit with the Pin Vise..
Will have to find something for that!
Maybe can you add them to the package?
I will gladly pay some extra for the including of 2 smaller drill bits to use on PCB's..
My Fix
In overall repairs it is going a lot faster thanks to the magnetic mat!

My mum had a broken screen on her iPhone 4s it's not the first time and was costing her alot to keep replacing it so I decided to educate my self in all things apple with the help of ifixit.
My Fix
I purchased a LCD/digitiser assembly and ordered the required tools to fit all went well thanks to your online guides and walk throughs. All went well my mum is over the moon with the fix.
My Advice
Preparation is key have all required tools to hand, have tidy work space and just take your time making notes of screw orders and numbered steps using magnetic board made everything so much easier.
My Problem
My son dropped my wife's Iphone on flagstones...
Needless to say cracked screen.
My Fix
2 hr. repair step by step instructions were perfect. I found using the magnetic project mat to label the length of screws and certain parts to be a big help!
My Advice
Use the repair guides and take your time. Not a job for a beginner but very rewarding!
