My Problem

Mac was getting slow so i put in 2 40gb ssd in raid 0

My Fix

Upgrade went with out a hitch, the guild was a little bit different from the mac mini i was working on but it didnt cause any problem.

My Advice

Follow the guild

My Problem

iPhone 4S lost sound effects for games and notifications. Phone ringer still works. Thought that the phone got damp.

My Fix

Tools (Pro Tech Tool kit) and repair manuals were ideal for accessing the 4S and with my eyesight, the head magnifier was perfect for magnification and leaving both hands free to hold the work. Got a few laughs from the office in the process. Fortunately none of the water indicators appear to be affected but there is some corrosion on the docking interface. Unfortunately, I do not have a brush small enough to give it a good cleaning.

My Advice

Nothing beats taking your time when disassembling these devices. Saves alot of headaches later. I will be getting the magnetic mat for future work though. The screws are just too !@#$ small and easy to get them confused with each other.

Apple needs to address the sounds issue since it seems to be a common problem.

My Problem

Not computer gear, but a Shure UR1M Wireless audio transmitter that is secured with security headed torx head screws. It's been in for repair before so I wanted to give a really solid guide to the repair folks at Shure as to the nature of the fault.

My Fix

Go the transmitter open with no problems and was able to isolate the fault down to where the antenna connection meets the very tiny PCB in the transmitter. It is now packaged back up and is getting sent off to Shure repair with a full description of the problem and where the fault lies so that they can get it all buttoned up.

My Advice

Be careful and organized opening these up, they are very tight inside and there's not a lot of wiggle room for getting the electronics out. You also want to make sure that when you close it back up all of the rubber gaskets are back in the correct position or you'll be opening the transmitter up to moisture damage.

My Problem

my computer was dropped for the second time and for the second time the HD was damaged...

My Fix

I decided to get a SSHD so hopefully next time it's dropped, i wont need to replace another HD. The fix went well, but it was a good this I save the set screws from the old HD so it would fit in my MacBook

My Advice

Keep the set screws for the install.

My Problem

My dad's old iMac was getting slow. My dad is 78 and he likes to browse the internet in style. So I surprised him with an upgrade of his old machine.

My Fix

The repair took 3 hours and it went really well due to the guide on this website. Also the old iMac is not made for 2,5" drives. There is no way to fix them in the casing without a 3,5" adapter bracket.

If you are daring, impatient and generally optimistic you can simply chose not to care and dump the ssd into the casing without any fixing. This is what I did and it works just fine.

My Advice

Get a friend to help you. Preferably someone with small hands. You need small hands (like those Foxconn workers) in order to connect and reconnect the power cables of the display.
