My Problem

Earpiece speaker had not worked for several months, screen was broken from a recent fall that caused a crack dead center from top to bottom of the front glass.

My Fix

Removing the battery proved a challenge, the spudger did not do the job properly. I eventually broke the plastic tab that should have assisted me in removing the battery. Instead I started by removing the motherboard, then removed the battery using a credit card.

Replacing the earpiece speaker was no easy task compared to replacing the screen. After I had replaced the earpiece I had difficulty installing the power button, now the button feels quite stiff and takes more force to press than before. However it is working and I see no reason to tear the phone apart to fix that small of an issue.

My Advice

If your battery is especially stuck to the case, do not use excessive force trying to remove it with the spudger. It is entirely possible to remove the motherboard before removing the battery if you are careful. Using a credit card to pry the battery from the case did no damage at all.

I managed to strip what looked like 2 resistors or capacitors from the motherboard, this was caused by my trying to pry up the battery with the spudger. I do not know what they do (or rather did), but the phone has been functioning perfectly for nearly a week now so I am not concerned.

Also be careful when removing the power button, I get the feeling I missed something when disassembling it causing my problems during reassembly.
