My Problem

So, as i was sitting at work i get a call from my daughter. usually that means money or something is up. i asked her was she in jail? or did she get caught in the dorm drinking? or what does she need me to send her? She begins to tell me that she was using her computer and she spilled a little water on her macbook pro and it made a glitch on the screen and turned off. my spider senses went inot full on alert. How much is a little bit of water and where did you spill it, i asked calmly. On my mouse pad area and not much. what is not much sweetie, as the pitch in my voice rose. Less then a cup? a smidge? a drop? Barely any she tells me. Well i am no dummie, if something shuts off it is not good. So, i go to my trustie google page and type in what happened. I start reading the stories and i am freaking out, %#*@ i just bought that thing at the beginning of the school year, there goes 1,400 bucks. Well i read that she needs to unplug it and then maybe put a towel in between the keyboard and screen, shut it and turn in upside down so water can go onto the towel. I then pull myself together and tell her everything is going to be ok, daddy will fix it. Yeah, right....but, then she says i have a paper due for midterms. i instruct her to go to that big library they have at UNR, and use one of those computers. she tells me i have to walk all the way there. yep, wear comfy shoes love, i tell her.

the only saving grace on it is that we are going up there in a day to pick her up for spring break. We get up there and i stop by a staples to get a little tool kit to take those %#*@ little screws out with. I take the back off and unplug the battery, i then let the back stay open to dry out.

We go back home and then take a trip to Universal studios hollywood for spring break. when we come back, i put the battery back in and close the back. with my arms, fingers, toes, legs and what ever else i can cross i fire the laptop back up. well, it comes on with no problems and the mouse pad seems to work. not even 10 mihutes later, she comes to me saying the mouse pad is all weirding out on her. So, back to google i go...i search mouse pads, replacing and how to do that. your site pops up and i see that you have the trackpads. well, i have opened up my macbook pro to repair the dreaded dead screen/nvidia chip heatsink problem. that was tricky....i find the one i need and promptly order one up for overnight shipping. I get it the next day, watch the great instructional video you have of taking out and replacing the trackpad. i proceeded to unscrew everything and replace the unit. it was really easy and fast. I put everything back together and cheered. i had no left over screws and was not missing any either. i usually have that problem. i fired that bad boy back up again and bammm! everything worked. i had a happy daughter and the earth once again was re-aligned.

thanks again

My Fix

the process was easy to do even for a newbie working on macs. since i had dismantled my mac book pro and put ever thing back together again it was easy to do. i watched the video once and took off the old trackpad and put the new one in. no extra screws even. put everything back together and fired it up. trackpad works great and so, far so good.

My Advice

i would tell someone wanting to know how easy it was....i put it on a scale of 3 out of 10, fairly easy if you know how to use a screw driver and have some know how.

i wish i would have found your site earlier, it would have calmed a dads nerves sooner.
