My Problem
My mother in laws phone quit charging. Took the phone to Apple and discovered that the pins inside the dock connector were damaged, and it was not covered under warrantee. They wanted $200 to replace the phone.
My Fix
The repair went smoothly. Paid about $42 for the part, tools, and shipping. Got everything in a couple of days later, and it took about an hour to replace the connector. $42 is a lot better than the $200 that Apple wanted, and I figured that since the warrantee was void anyway, might as well make the repair myself.
My Advice
Follow the guides. They're simple, explain exactly what needs to be done, and what to be careful of, and include lots of pictures of what you're working on. I have never worked on a phone before, except replacing the backplate on my 4S, and these guides made me feel like a pro when I was finished.
