My Problem

The original 1TB in the 2010 iMac was starting to feel slow. I considered an SSD, but capacity was also a concern, and the new hybrids seemed like a good balance.

My Fix

Great! It was quicker than I expected. The density of the computer was a little intimidating, compared to working on a spacious ATX chassis, but the guide was spot on.

I did forget to screw the LCD panel back in before putting the glass on, but thankfully remembered before trying to put it upright.

After a few reboots, it is feeling a good bit snappier, and commonly used apps are noticeably quicker. The SSD-aspect of the hybrid drive is definitely doing the trick.

My Advice

A role of large paper helps keep the dust off the LCD panel and glass. Placing the screws in a dedicated container keeps them in place and makes it obvious when a step is skipped. Also, taking detailed photos at every step helps keep track of things like connector orientations.
