My Problem
My 2006 13" MacBook refused to boot or even recognize the hard drive one day, so a replacement was in order.
My Fix
Following the ifixit.com guide I was able to complete the hard drive replacement in under 10 minutes, from start to finish. Once installed, I was able to format the drive with Disk Utility and then use my external USB drive to clone OX X 10.6.8 and all of my programs into the new HD. Perfect!
My Advice
This is an easy repair. It is hard to believe that Apple charges so much for the same thing.
