My Problem
Hard drive died suddenly on my imac g5. Computer still runs fairly quickly, so decided to fix it.
My Fix
Received my replacement drive in 2 days. I was worried that all our family photos were lost. I had backed up everything, but wasn't convinced everything would work smoothly. Replaced the hard drive with the ifixit replacement 2TB drive and followed their directions. Job took 1.5 hours, partioned the drive, used time machine to reinstall overnight. Everything works and I have tons of HD space now. Thanks ifixit.
My Advice
If you're handy at all, don't be afraid to tackle this job.
