reshaping the back case of my iPhone5

maxturkewitz -

My Problem

just under 90lbs fell on my iPhone in a case. It mostly survived the force, but the case bent so that the volume buttons didn't line up and the phone no longer sat flat.

My Fix

The second step of separating the front screen was really difficult. It didn't feel like I was making any progress, until it finally just popped off. At that point it came up so fast I just barely stopped it at or before 90 degrees. Otherwise it went pretty smooth. I was also nervous about getting the battery out. Once I got out the battery I realized I didn't need to take out anything else but the screws holding the volume buttons and mute switch in. I was then able to put some cloth on either side of the back case and gently hammer it back in to shape. Putting everything back together went pretty smoothly.

My Advice

I kept trying to get the plastic opening tools in between the case and the glass. This didn't work. Just keep pushing the case away from the glass in various spots.
