My Problem

I was getting the screen error when trying to charge that seemed to tell me that the battery wasn't accepting charge, and the iPod showed no other signs of life. I'd never tried repairing an iPod before and I saw how cheap the kits were to try, so decided to give it a try. I'd been using your take-apart help for years but only purchased one item for an old Powerbook years before. Even if I got nowhere on this repair, I figured I need to throw you money anyway.

My Fix

The initial take-apart on the iPod was not simple as you suggested and the plastic sputters you sent weren't strong enough to make the separation, so I used a small screwdriver. Without knowing what type of movement the case needed, to pull apart, my hand suffered a few jabs from the metal screwdriver — a little severe, but its for an old iPod, so I'm willing to draw a little blood! Once I got the case separated your instructions were spot on, and putting the case back together was easy. Then on restart, everything was back to normal, yea! Now, maybe I will hunt around for a bigger drive!

My Advice

A video showing the case coming apart, and perhaps the technique used with your plastic tool separating could be quite handy. The rest of the take-apart is straight forward with the high res images you have, but the case is a little tricky. Thanks for all the years of helping iFixing!
