My Problem

One day a few weeks ago, my iPhone 4's power button stopped working. I researched the issue and came across ifixit.com. I ordered the parts I needed and some tools and decided to give it a go doing the repair myself.

My Fix

The repair was successful, though quite tricky with all of the tiny components. During the process and my previous replacement of the headphone jack a week earlier, I discovered a small inconsistency in the provided instuctions. Step 4 shows the grounding clip secured by a small screw. However every subsequent picture shows the 4.8 mm standoff near the headphone jack above the grounding clip. Then in Step 16, the second picture shows the standoff under the removed grounding clip. Nowhere in the instructions is there a step to remove the screw. As a result, I ended up with an extra screw at the end and had to review instuctions. Finding the discrepancy, I removed the standoff and grounding clip and then replaced the standoff with the grouding clip above it and then the screw to secure the grounding clip. This inconsistency appears in at least several of your Verizon iPhone 4 guides as they seem to use the same pictures.

My Advice

See above regarding picture discrepancy. Also, it was virtually impossible to remove the earpiece speaker without tearing the foam adhesive securing it to the iPhone. I would suggest including a new foam ring with the replacement Power Button Cable.
