My Problem

My Macbook Pro 15" unibody battery had went completely dead and I couldn't even power my laptop on when it was plugged in.

My Fix

I was so glad that I bought the tools from iFixit along with the battery. The screwdrivers fit perfectly, and there were 3 Tri-wing screws that needed the special screwdriver, so it was great having everything I needed right away!

My Advice

Get the battery and the tools needed here, that way you are not compromising or running to a store to get specialty tools that are tough to find. I hadn't even heard of a tri-wing screwdriver/screw before! The spduger was also nice because it is plastic and doesn't scratch anything that you pry on.

My Problem

Clorox Wipe + Trackpad = No Bueno

My Fix

15 mins start to finish, instructions were on point

My Advice

Keep Clorox Wipes away from your trackpad, kids. And if you don't, ifixit is the place to go

My Problem

My Late 2009 Macbook's (the original white unibody) battery died suddenly last summer. I checked with the local Apple retailer but they charged me almost twice the price of a new battery and they also wanted me to leave the laptop for two or three days at their shop. So I checked for a replacement and I remembered that some years ago I had a new iPod battery from iFixit.

Sadly, back then they had no new batteries for my model, so I had to wait and live off the wall charger for a while. That was frustrating because this is my main computer and I work on the go almost everyday, and not every place has a wall charger.

So when I saw iFixit had batteries for sale again I jumped in.

My Fix

It was fairly easy to replace the battery, I just needed the screwdrivers (I had the Torx and ordered the rare Tri-wing) and a bit of patience. My greatest problem was the upper-left side plastic around one screw of the DVD drive, which didn't let the battery gently slip in. But I removed that screw, ditched the plastic piece and the battery wen it like a charm.

Anyway, I hope Apple go back to easy replaceable batteries. They weren't much larger and they were more practical.

My Advice

Have your screwdrivers in place, take care with the plastic piece of the upper left side and don't misspent your money taking this to a shop. With the iFixit tutorial and tools you can do it and save good money.

My Problem

Silly Tri-Tip screwdrivers, lucky ifixit came to the rescue!

My Fix

Excellently

My Advice

Make sure you order the right battery from Amazon, it's too bad that ifixit doesn't stock batteries for newer Macbook Pro's

My Problem

Still waiting for new fan which you have on back order. Hope you really can get your hands on it.

Will let you know how it goes if and when I can fixit.

Thanks

My Fix

Still going

My Advice

Any way to get an update on back orders of the wii fan?

Enlightenment hopefully will follow.

My Problem

The battery in my late 2011 unibody MacBook Pro was failing.

My Fix

The repair went great. I watched the video on the ifixit site and ordered all the suggested tools and the battery. When it all arrived, I jumped right in. The video was so well done that I didn't even need to revisit it. If I had not followed your directions, I never would have ordered the Spudger or Tri-wing screwdriver, which it turns out, were fairly essential.

My Advice

Fix it if you can. A battery in a laptop is a pretty non-threatening repair and a good time to clean out the vents and inside of your laptop shell.

My Problem

Existing 250 GB HDD filling up, and feeling sluggish.

My Fix

Repair couldn't have gone more swimmingly. All the tools to hand, and the instructions simple enough for an idiot (ie. me) to follow. Boot-up a little tense, but needn't have worried.

My Advice

Ok I needed a bit more space, but blown away by the speed increase. Never realised the HDD was such a bottleneck on my system. Should have done it ages ago. Make sure you buy the external adaptor to clone the drive before fitting it and you'll be whizzing along in no time. Oh and amazingly speedy delivery from iFixit (and I live on a remote Scottish island).

My Fix

No repair yet.

My Advice

Need more tools for an iphone rebuild.

My Problem

Ma batterie était en fin de vie, impossible d'utiliser mon mac sans qu'il soit branché. J'ai donc choisi de commander une nouvelle batterie sur Ifixit et j'en ai profité pour augmenter un petit peu ma mémoire RAM

My Fix

J'ai suivi les guides de Ifixit et tout s'est très bien passé, j'ai effectué les changements en 20 minutes.

My Advice

Les guides sont très complet et je ne pense pas pouvoir donner de conseils suplémentaires

My Problem

The battery on my mid-2009 MacBook Pro was well past needing to be replaced. It was only holding enough of a charge for 1\2 hour if that much.

My Fix

The replacement took me only about 10 mins since I had been "under the hood" of my laptop on several other occasions regarding upgrades.

My Advice

This is not a difficult replacement for most folks if they have done any upgrades before. There are 10 screws on the bottom cover of the laptop and care needs to be taken to ensure they go back in the same way they came out using whatever method(s) work best for you. The only screws holding the battery in have a tri-wing, or tri-star, pattern and using the Tri-wing Y1 Screwdriver offered through iFixit is a must to ensure you can easily and correctly remove and replace battery. After removing screws a simple unclipping the ribbon cable connecting the battery to the logic board and lifting battery out is all it takes. Installation is in reverse. Work carefully and methodically and all will be fine.
