My Problem

I was getting the "Service Battery" warning. The Apple support site recommends replacement of built-in batteries at an Apple store. Had I not had firsthand evidence of the less-than-stellar competence of the Genius Bar, I'd have gone that route. Subsequent on-line research led me to ifixit.com. While there was no cost savings I did save myself the headaches of entrusting my notebook to the Geniuses.

My Fix

Thanks to the ifixit write-up the repair went very quickly. I've opened the MBP in the past to replace the hard drive the Genius Bar drone said was fine, so there was no trepidation in doing that.

My Advice

The three tri-wing screws that hold the battery in place have thread sealant (Loctite). You need to apply downward pressure on the screwdriver while turning it counterclockwise to break the bond. The Y1 screwdriver needs to be positioned precisely into the slots on the screw head. Otherwise you run the risk of stripping the head when removing those screws.

My Problem

Bought a Macbook Pro second hand and after one year the battery died causing my mac to slow down to to a crawl. I thought for a moment about throwing it out the window but then thought better of it.

My Fix

the repair was quick and easy I had the battery and tools...and the how to guide. It was done in a snap.

My Advice

don't throw it out the window.

My Problem

Service battery warning, after trying to cycle my battery several times by fully draining and recharging I was unable to remedy the situation. I decided to replace the battery myself since it was out of warranty.

My Fix

Thanks to the AWESOME IFIXIT tool kit I received for Christmas this repair was a breeze. I quickly reviewed the battery replacement tutorial on Ifixit and in total took no more than 15 minutes from start to finish. EXCELLENT!

My Advice

Use the guides and the right tools, ifixit makes repairs and upgrades a breeze!

My Problem

My MBP suddenly didn't work without being plugged in.

My Fix

One of the guys at work told me about Ifixit and so I ordered a battery. It now holds a charge for longer then 3 minutes.

My Advice

Have somebody else put the battery in.

My Problem

My original battery was completely fried to the point that if running on windows I had to unplug the battery from the motherboard to prevent shutdown within 5 minutes of starting the computer.

My Fix

The repair didn't take too long, although I had to put the security screws in in a more "discrete" way in order to get all 3 of them in. Basically had to insert all of the screws into the proper location before screwing them in at all.

My Advice

I'd just recommend all of the security screws are lined up. The battery I received was like new and is working great so far. When possible try and make the battery last as long as possible by draining it (to around 1-3%) at least once a week. Also, make sure you have the proper screwdriver. I used a Tri-Wing Y0 (I believe) that I got in a package for $6 from a local store.

My Problem

Swelled battery, I didnt respond to the servicemessages fast enough. Noticed the problem only when the mousepad stopped working due to pressure from the battery. I was afraid that the Mac had suffered a lot of damage, but after removing the battery everything seemed to work ok. My mac seemed to deserve some parts investment still, but not so much as my local Mac repair shop demanded...

My Fix

New battery and tools arrived after a couple of days, pretty fast for transport from the US to Norway. I have previously upgraded memory and harddrive (and removed faulty battery) following ifixits guides, so battery installment took minutes and the battery appears to be brand new (0 cycles). Very happy to have my Mac back :)

My Advice

1. If the mousepad stops working, check the battery ASAP!

2. Have the right tools, those small (and for the battery, triangular) screws are a pain to work with unless the screwdrivers are the correct fit...

My Problem

My MacBook Pro (Early 2011) battery was showing a "Service Battery" indicator. I tried a few solutions to repair it via software but finally decided to go ahead and replace the battery once I saw how easy it was (in the ifixit guide).

My Fix

Amazingly easy. Step by step via the guide, no problems.

My Advice

The only thing I missed was the fact that I needed the Y tool. So, after opening the case, I realized that I needed the tool. Once I got the proper tool, it was very easy.

My Problem

My battery was never that good from day one one my early 2011 mac Book Pro and finally gave out.

My Fix

Repair was very simple with the aid of Ifixit

My Advice

Either buy a special triwing screwdriver or make your own like I did and make one by grinding off one side of a phillips driver.

My Problem

The battery was shot and wouldn't hold a charge at all. Also had a spare SSD so I decided to install that too.

My Fix

Both the battery replacement and dual hard drive installation were very easy to do. Having the guides up on my phone and desktop allowed me to follow along step by step.

My Advice

Nothing special, follow the guide and use the correct tools and should be no problem for anyone.

My Problem

The original battery was rapidly loosing its capacity, falling below 20% of its original specs. This left my Macbook Pro with less than 1 hour of run time on battery (and much less if actually using it for anything).

My Fix

Easier and faster than taking it to the Apple Store, from ordering the battery to swapping it out. Shipping was extremely quick, and had the battery swapped with the laptop booted back up in less than 5 minutes. I've swapped hard drives and upgraded memory in the past, so I knew what to expect getting to the battery...

My Advice

Don't forget the tri-star driver - not a common tool many people will have laying around, nor is it easy to find in most locations.
