My Problem
Laptop could no longer remember time-of-day, wi-fi network name or even the logon passwords of the users.
My Fix
Ultimately everything went perfectly. I replaced the PRAM battery and the USB board that the battery is permanently attached to. The laptop is like new.
My Advice
The PRAM battery is permanently attached to a USB port connector. I initially tried to replace the wrong USB connector! I thought I had must have the wrong part. The correct USB connector is on the right side of the chassis, not the left, and was very easy to replace.
Make sure you have the right philips screwdrivers and torq head drivers for the job.
