My Problem
Needed to keep my old G4 Powerbook alive. I replaced to the main power battery and ordered the Pram battery.
The old/original battery had had it and was only lasting 30 minutes or so. When it died so did the clock and reverted back to 1970-something or other.
My Fix
Installing the new main battery seemed to have fixed the problem and the clock keeps time again on start-up.
I decided to not install the new Pram battery. 'If it ain't broke don't fix it'...yet. Having the part and the tools necessary to do it when it is needed gives me peace of mind though. These spare parts are hard to come by these days. My old machine is 6 years old and well in to retirement
My Advice
I would hate to have to throw away an old but still working piece of kit just because of a small battery that keeps the clock going. It is my wife's now and we use it as a spare machine. We have grown quite attached to it over the years. It is just used to go online and for tasks.
