Product Overview

Have you ever thought about what goes on when you slide a CD into your optical drive? The whirr of the spinning CD, the buzz of the lens assembly, the sweet music data pouring from the disk, and, of course, the laser—it's a rock concert for your computer internals.

But what about when your optical drive fails? No lasers, no spinning discs, no rock 'n' roll. The show is cancelled. However, a faulty optical drive doesn't need to be the end of the computer rock tour. By replacing the optical drive, you can get the show back on the road.

Like rock 'n' roll, this drive isn't for everybody and will only fit in 12.7 mm optical bays. It won't work in MacBooks or 15" MacBook Pros, which require a thinner drive. This SuperDrive also won't work in iMacs with Pioneer (DVR-K06RS), or in 14" G4 iBooks with TEAC (DV-W28SL) drives.

NOTE: Requires removing ribbon cable and bracket from your current optical drive for installation.

Stories

My Problem

The optical drive stopped working so I decided to shift it. I had a hard time finding a replacement, but found it on iFixit together with an install guide.

My Fix

With the help of install guides on iFixit for RAM and hard drive I had learnt how to disconnect the MacBook Pro. Quite easy actually. The new drive works great.

My Advice

A magnetic bowl for the screws are a good tip and a magnet to make the screwdrivers magnetic to make them hold the screws when unscrewing them and taking them to the bowl and when putting them on place again to fasten them is another tip. I used my fingernails instead of a spudger when lifting up the keyboard.

My Problem

A few parts have gone bad and Apple will no longer fix my computer. Internal power supply and Optical drive. Upgrading to leopard so i boosted the RAM to 2gb.

My Fix

All repairs went very smooth, the repair guides were the key to my confidence. Thanks for everything.

My Advice

For anyone who is as shook as i was before i opened and started poking around in my IMAC G5 1076. Dont sweat it! Its a big LEGO set. A big expensive LEGO set so with a little patience and advise from IFIXIT youll be back up and running in minutes.

My Problem

My Fix

My Advice

Gran Descubrimiento
