My Problem
My computer developed a terrible loud noise when running. At first I thought it was the fan coming on from the processor working too hard. But when I tracked activity, there was nothing out of the ordinary going on. After a little online research, I learned that the bearings in the fan had failed, and the fan was just making noise. It was so loud using my computer became a real pain.
My Fix
iFixit got me sorted. A simple walk-through on the repair, which was very easy - a few screws out, and nothing scary at all. Shipping time was fast. The new fan dropped right in. My computer runs silently again. Thanks!
My Advice
You can do it. Don't be afraid of doing the fix yourself.
My Problem
The right fan of my MacBook Pro was humming and rattling like crazy.
My Fix
The 26 Piece Bit Driver Kit and the Spudger came in very helpful of course. The MacBook was ready for the operation in no time. The fan is fixed with 3 philips screws. One of these was fixed so strongly I damaged the screw in my efforts to unscrew it before it came loose. With the two other screws out, I managed to tilt the fan until the attachment broke. My new fan is fixed with two screws only but it works perfectly and more important, silently!
My Advice
I got help from an Indian technician who dropped by at the office to fix something else.
My Problem
I destroyed my right fan. Then I noticed I do rarely use my CD. So why not to replace my CD with an SSD and put all the system and software on to the SSD and leave all personal data onto the original HD? The speed of my mac is now incredible. For example: CATIA CAD in Parallels with starts now within 20 seconds instead of 3 minutes! (MacBookPro)
My Fix
Without Problem! Only the screwdriver set i got additionally with an iPhone front cover is really a cheap solution and is worth nothing. But the iPhone front cover, the fan and the SSD installation set work well!
My Advice
Don't use the screwdriver from iFixit. You damage your screws. But repair guide and spare parts are excellent! Specially for the iPhone front cover I got few weeks ago.
