My Problem
The left fan in my MBP sounded like a jet plane taking off. It needed to be replaced because I could no longer use my laptop in public.
My Fix
Very easy.
My Advice
The fan and another similar connector push in, they don't slide in.
My Problem
The right side fan on my Mac laptop A1260 was screaming like a pack of 10yr old girls and driving me and the family crazy.
My Fix
Daunting at first seeing as I needed to remove the whole top half of the laptop and it had connections I was not familiar with, but the how to guides here on ifixit were excellent and made the whole experience a pleasure. In fact, while I had it opened, I went ahead and put in a larger HD with the money I saved from not having to pay repair labor.
My Advice
It is definitely easier than you think. The Spudger tool is a no brainer, get it and use your screwdriver for something else....like screws.
My Problem
The fan was extremely noisy, so much so that you could hear the laptop operating from other rooms in the house. No choice, then - the fan had to be replaced
My Fix
The install guide was very detailed and helpful. The only criticism was that when it came to putting everything back together, there were a couple of challenges that had not been described. The connector for the iSight camera was not straightforward to replace, and it took the best part of ten minutes of fiddling before I got it re-connected. It seemed that the upper part of the connector would not bend back to the correct angle to let it slide into place, and the connector itself seems quite fragile. Some guidance on the best / right way to handle this item would have been welcome. Total install time, start to finish, about 45 minutes.
My Advice
Make sure you pull the tape with the iSight wires attached well away from the work area so that you can properly orient the connector back into its receptor.
My Problem
fan and drive died
My Fix
having built computers, made repairs, this was simple.
My Advice
iFixit provides you with pictures that are worthless without an internet connection and an extra computer to view while you fix yours. Nothing ventured is nothing gained. Look at pictures; figure it out; go for it.
My Problem
Seriously noisy fans.
My Fix
Easier than expected.
My Advice
Go Slow, be organized, have a good space available with all tools, parts and snacks within reach.
My Problem
My Macbook Pro gets a lot of use and the fans were finally reaching a point of strain where they were almost ineffective.
My Fix
Repair went flawless; the teardown guide was very accurate in stepping me through with disassembly. I didn't run into any issues at all since I have replaced the main board before so I was familiar with the components already.
My Advice
Be very careful when prying up the keyboard and trackpad panel from the main body so you don't jerk it upward and pull the connector off the main board.
My Problem
the fan was noisy and there was no battery life in the five year old Macbook Pro 15"
My Fix
okay, except for a issue with the connector to the HD. Had to reopen the machine a second time to firmly set the connection
My Advice
keep the economy running, just buy new
My Problem
After only 4 years of frequent use, the left fan on my Macbook Pro had gotten really noisy.
My Fix
Every step was exactly as described by iFixit, right down to the difficulty in releasing the plastic clips over the DVD drive.
My Advice
As noted in the text, re-engaging the plastic clips over the DVD drive is very difficult. Partially inserting a CD in the drive slot helps to hold the slot open so that the clips can be pressed hard enough to engage.
My Problem
Noisy Fans and the right fan had a broken fan blade.
My Fix
First time working on my mac myself and it went super smoothly.
My Advice
Take your time with small pieces. Go slow and work step by step and you can do anything
My Problem
MacBook Pro 15" (Model A1260) fans began to make loud noise but quit running soon after.
My Fix
It went well. I followed the guide and searched online for a few other videos. All in all it took me about 45 minutes. That's because it was my first time going in and I was scared to screw things up.
My Advice
Label the screws what goes where, when removing them it would help and go much quicker.
