My Problem
It looked like someone had tried to install a new drive in the laptop. The cable had been bent so that it broke at the point the two sections diverge from the base. Diagnosis was difficult as the split was not easy to see at the start.
My Fix
Repair went without a hitch. Drive installed and OS booted on first attempt.
My Advice
Whatever it is you are trying to do, google it and watch the video. Someone's done it before and posted it on YouTube.
My Problem
I broke the cable replacing a hard drive.
My Fix
Very well. The directions were good.
My Advice
Piece of cake - good experience.
My Problem
Few months back my optical super drive went bad and would no longer work. I decided to remove it all together and install an additional hard drive in its place to add more storage to my Mac. Also, I replaced the hard drive cable just as a precaution.
My Fix
I had previously removed the optical drive following all the instructions on iFixit site. Very clear and easy to follow. I went back to review the steps again and just like before everything went smoothly.
My Advice
The only advice I would give is to make sure you organize all the screws to help remember where they go. This was the only thing I did not do on my first removal of the optical drive, but remembered to do it on the instal of the drive enclosure. It took less time when everything was laid out.
My Problem
I asked the Apple rep at a store how much memory I could put on this laptop. The answer was 2GB. I'm developing numerical models that require lots of RAM, and the O.S. takes about 1GB. So I was thinking about doing a laptop upgrade.
My Fix
The kit I got for doing the HD replacement was useful, as the screws are very small. I experienced absolutely NO difficulty with this "operation".
My Advice
The instructions were clear. There isn't any more advice I could give.
