Only be carefull by pulling the plugs, better use the Spudger if you can.

When remove the dead fan, clean the grille you will see before installing the new one

Step 12 of the instructions was not as specific as I would have liked. I ultimately figured out how to do it but I was worried that I might be causing harm to my system.

Step 12 states "Use a spudger to flip up the brown plastic flap securing the left ambient light sensor cable to the logic board." I had no idea what a spudger was and "brown plastic flap" is not very specific and the item is so small, it was hard to see how it might mechanically work. It would be great if you could provide a close up picture of this component.

My Problem

I replace my optical drive with a SSD.

My Fix

The installation was easy, no problem.

But when I install the OS on the SSD and boot from it, I can no longer enter sleep mode. I've tried to google the problem but have found nothing about that kind of behaviour. Anyone got a suggestion?

A customer left a Macbook Pro with a faulty left fan. I went to ifixit.com for ordering not for being the cheapest on the market but for ideological reasons. Help the ones helping me!

My Problem

My right fan was dead, never showed as running when I checked istat pro. Led to my mac running hotter than it should. Figured I would replace both since I already had to open it for the one.

My Fix

The only complaint was UPS delivered my fans a day late when I paid for next day air. The only difficult part was the small cable going across (and attached to) the left fan. (I forget the step #) Guide was thorough and VERY helpful.

My Advice

Kapton tape! The electrical tape covering the fans and vent ports were very sticky and did not want to attach to the new fans. I covered the old tape with Kapton. Also, the steps that require you to remove cables taped down the mother board need to be replaced as well.

My Problem

My old fellow (A MBP 2006) started to be noisy. The left fan was making a sound like a blender at top speed.

My Fix

The guide was incredibly helpful, the problems start when I tried to open the upper case, I broke some parts of it (Where you put the screws). Then I realized that some tapes where put on places not showed on the pics from Ifixit. and the cable from the sensor light was almost welded to the fan.

But the guide was the key, It showed me how to properly arrange the cables and tapes in the case and the replacement was fast.

Have a printed guide with you and be prepared to get some different arranged cables and tapes.

My Problem

Damaged and noisy fan.

My Fix

It took about 45 minutes. The guide was very helpful. It was kind of hard taking the keyboard on and off, but I am pretty dumb when it comes to computers. I damaged a piece putting the keyboard back on, but it doesn't affect the performance of my computer. After replacing the fan, it works perfectly now. My keyboard cover is just a little loose in areas.

Be careful taking the keyboard on and off. Keep your screws organized.

The left fan was making the noise of a lawning machine...

My Fix

The repair went quite ok, until I found out that the connector of the fan was different than the one of the replacement fan. Maybe this is due to the age (6 years) of the machine or to the origin (bought it in Switzerland). So I had to cut the wires on both fans and weld the old plug onto the new fan. After that installation was a piece of cake...

My Problem

Right fan was not running and that was putting more burden on the left fan and some processes caused the machine to get too hot.

My Fix

This was my second experience opening the MBP so I knew my way to the inside. I replaced both fans and the left fan is harder to replace than the right because there are some tiny wires that pass over the left fan. A tiny strip wire that connected something to the main board came off and I had a bit of difficulty putting that back on. I had to use a magnifying glass. Had it not been for this little adventure it would have taken me about 30 minutes from shut down to restart.

I had a piece of paper on the table with the views of the case marked up where I kept various screw groups.

If you are replacing the fans have some kind of dust blower ready because the vents probably need a good cleaning too. I didn't have one but managed to clean them up by blowing on them.
