My Problem

Une fois tous remonté, l'écran fonctionnait parfaitement mais l'ordi n'a pas trouvé le disque... J'ai redémonté jusqu'au disque, sans doute un faux contact quelque part. Après remontage tout était bon.

My Fix

La description est très précise, il faut être méthodique.

My Advice

A chaque étape j'ai collé les vis sur une feuille de papier en indiquant le n° du pas (Step)... Au montage il n'y a pas eu de confusion.

My Problem

My screen was not working properly, if I should have it fixed by the Apple repair centre it should have cost me €500,- and non apple repair store €200... now it only cost me €30,- and 4 hours of work.. which was interesting to do!

My Fix

Very good tutorial

My Advice

great website...!

My Problem

I received the laptop from a friend who dropped it down a flight of stairs. They weren't going to repair it so I took it. I first took it to the Apple Genius Bar where they ran what they called an MRI - everything worked. They also straightened the CD ROM opening for me. I took it into MacTalk, paid $50 for diagnostics and they said it needed a display and inverter cable. Labor was going to be $120. This put the repair over what I wanted to invest.

My Fix

The display replacement takes a while but went well. I didn't discover I ordered the wrong inverter cable (needed the Santa Rosa/Pendryn cable) until well into disassembly. We tried the display with the old cable - no luck. I returned the inverter cable to iFixit (thank you) and ordered the right inverter cable (and an inverter just in case). The cable was faulty, the inverter worked fine. I just sent the unused inverter back in the mail (thanks again for your service and after sales support).

It was pretty much impossible to determine that the Macbook was the Santa Rosa/Pendryn model until I got inside. Perhaps some work can be done here? The Apple Serial Number Info site didn't even specify it.

My Advice

My Mac-experienced friend who helped with the repair used a simple but effective way to keep track of the different screws during the disassembly. For each step requiring screws to be removed, we labeled the step on a piece of white printer paper, then made small holes in the approximate location for each screw. Several steps can be put on one piece of paper. The screws are pushed into the hole in the paper using the magnetic screwdriver. For the holes, I used the smallest screwdriver I had. Put the holes in before taking the screws out! I used small tabs of scotch tape to hold the ultra thin screws in the hole. This takes all of the guess work out of the reassembly and keeps everything organized!

The top case of the laptop has reportedly been problematic for some time. Apple Genius Bar told me that these MacBooks qualify for free replacement top cases due to a design issue. Tomorrow I have an appointment to get the top case replaced. After that, pretty much good as new!

My Problem

The display on my MacBook was blacking out more and more frequently. Looked up the problem and found this step-by-step guide to fix it on ifixit.com. Having the needed parts and tools tied to the article was a huge help!

My Fix

The instructions were incredible - great pictures, very clear instructions. I was able to do it myself and save a ton of money in the process. I love how they have all the parts you need right there on the how-to guide. I received the parts/tools super fast, and the repair was a breeze.

My Advice

My MacBook has a plastic shell. Be careful when re-assembling the unit, because it's easy to push the optical drive slot down a bit - making it hard to insert CDs. I was able to fix (my mistake) by opening up the slot a little with a knife later.

My Problem

Screen would only come on when partly open

My Fix

Tried to take apart and reposition inverter cable, did not work. Ordered new one and replacement clutch cover (source of the problem), replaced the inverter cable and clutch cover and it now works fine. Your Macbook guides and advice were the key to solving the problem. Works like new.

My Advice

You had no stock of clutch covers, white, would have save me some time. I do love the Ifixit site!

My Problem

The screen was dark on my laptop although it was running properly. looked up a troubleshoot and got a part. i intalled this part and my laptop worked like new.

My Fix

It went fantastic. i looked up how to take apart my computer, replaced the part, and wala my computer was like new.

My Advice

well.... one word of advise. It definately helps to have about 4 hours for this. it takes a while to take apart the computer and replacing the part is kinda a pain.

My Problem

The screen would only come on when the lid was almost closed. I'd have to wait for at least an hour for the cable inside to "heat up" before I could open the lid all the way. Found a coupon online giving me $5 off! So it was only an $18.95 repair!

My Fix

Easy as cake. The picture really helped get me through, and if anyone will tell you, a pill box is definitely a plus if you have one around.

My Advice

Open your stuff up fearlessly. Even if you mess up along the way, iFixit will get you back on track with detailed descriptions and step-by-step instructions.
