Creating a Device Page
Definition
A device page is a central repository of all troubleshooting and repair information on a specific device.
Each device page contains the following:
- Links to troubleshooting guides.
- Links to repair guides.
- How to identify the device (differentiating between models).
- Background information on the device.
- A picture of the device. This photo is widely used, so quality is important.
- Links to the best online resources for the device.
- Short summary of the device (which will appear in device page search results).
Creation
Follow the format outlined in this example device page.
- Copy this link into the address bar: http://www.ifixit.com/Guide/Device/Device_Name
- Change "Device_Name" to whatever the name is of your device. For example, if you are creating a device page for the Canon Powershot SD900, the link in the address bar should read http://www.ifixit.com/Guide/Device/Canon_Powershot_SD900
- Go to that wiki page and click on the "you can start it now!" link to start editing the page.
Linking Repair Guides & Teardowns
Both repair guides and teardowns are automatically linked to device pages of the same name once the guide/teardown is published.
