VEX V5 11w smart motor Un-seizing

Introduction

Un-stick an 11w Vex V5 smart motor that has seized up

This method will void the warranty and competition legality of your motor if you complete this process.

  • Before opening the motor attempt to spin the motor with a high-strength axle and large wheel.
  • This fix may only be temporary. The reliability of this motor is not guaranteed when completing this process.

What you need

  1. VEX V5 11w smart motor Un-seizing, remove top case and gear cartridge: step 1, image 1 of 1

    • use a Small Phillips head screwdriver to remove the top case.

    • simply pull the cartridge out of the motor.

    • NOTE: my motor had no case when I got it so I only had the attached PDF for images.

    • Remove the 4 screws holding the top case on the motor.

    • Once the screws are removed you can pull the 2 pieces apart.

    • Remove the 2 Phillips head screws holding the bottom case on.

    • Pull the bottom case off.

    • Use your fingers, a small flathead screwdriver, or a spudger to remove the center gear.

    • 1. Tap the small metal gear and metal shaft on the other side of the motor.

    • 2. Grip the metal gear with pliers and twist 1 full revolution or until the motor spins freely by hand.
