Another good camera with a broken LCD. A replacement LCD is available for around $18 at numerous places. Not a bad price for the repair of a good camera.

  • Difficulty: Moderate

This is a straight forward job. It only requires a few tools, a bit of dexterity, and patience when removing the rear case.

Add Note Edit Step 1 — LCD  ¶

  • Remove the batteries and the memory card, if so equipped.

  • Remove the three screws on the bottom.

  • Remove the two screws on the right side.

Add Note Edit Step 2  ¶

  • Remove the screw on the left side, underneath the side cover. the side cover was mounted with one of the bottom screws and should just slide down to reveal the screw

  • Start splitting the case from the bottom of the camera. The case is snapped on by a few catches on the bottom

  • as well as the sides. Use an opening tool if the catches are a bit tight.

Add Note Edit Step 3  ¶

  • Catch on the top right side

  • Catch on the bottom right side

  • One more on the battery compartment

    • The rear case is pretty snug due to the catches. While using the opening tool, try to pull gently on the back case so that it does clear the catches. Do not use the tool to try to pry it off, it may break the plastic of the case.

Add Note Edit Step 4  ¶

  • With a bit of wiggling on the back case, and the use of the opening tool, separate the rear case from the camera.

  • Clear view of the LCD in its frame.

  • Lift the LCD out of its frame. Do not try to remove it yet, it is still attached with two ribbon cables.

Add Note Edit Step 5  ¶

  • Once the LCD is out of the frame just slide it down. the ribbon cables are folded underneath the LCD, and are placed between the holder and the LCD

    • These two ribbon cable will have to be removed next.

  • The main ribbon cable uses a clip to secure the cable to the connector.

    • The smaller LCD backlight cable uses a compression connector to secure that cable. Just use your fingernails or a small tool to push the lock away from the connector. It should only have to move a few mm. This will remove the LCD.

    • Once the LCD is replaced and the camera is reassembled, this is the result you hopefully experience.
