This guide will demonstrate how to properly remove the battery from the back of the Kindle Fire HD.

Edit Step 1 Screen  ¶ 

  • Insert large prying tool next to headphone jack of Kindle.

    • Make sure the arrow on the prying tool is facing the backside of the Kindle.

  • Pry equally all around Kindle so that it does not bend in half.

  • Once the two halves have separated, leave the flex cables attached.

  • Lay your Kindle flat like an open book.

  • Locate the two flex cables.

  • Place your finger under the small black tab of the upper flex cable attached to the screen and lift upward.

  • Pull the cable horizontally away from the screen until the cable disconnects from its socket.

    • Be careful not to crease or bend the flex cable too much for it may cause connection issues.

Edit Step 4  ¶ 

  • Switch to the back half on the kindle

  • Place your finger under the black tab of the lower flex cable attached to the back half and pull upward.

  • Pull the flex cable horizontally toward the screen half of the Kindle.

    • Be careful not to crease or bend the flex cable too much it may cause connection issues.

Edit Step 5  ¶ 

  • Pull apart the two disconnected halves

    • The screen (left) is now separated from the back (right) half successfully.

Edit Step 6 Inner Metal Casing  ¶ 

  • Now that the two main parts of your Kindle are separated, take off the metal case. You will be working on the part to the right of the photo.

    • Put the screws in a secure location so that none will be lost in the process.

  • Locate the sixteen 3mm Philips head to unscrew the metal casing.

    • One screw per corner (4)

    • Four screws located around the camera

    • Eight screws located on the actual metal casing.

  • Finish unscrewing all sixteen 3mm screws.

Edit Step 7  ¶ 

  • After removing all sixteen screws, carefully lift metal casing up where shown.

    • Once the metal casing has been removed, your Kindle should reflect the second picture.

Edit Step 8 Battery  ¶ 

  • For easier handling, position the Kindle as shown.

  • Locate the black flex cable which covers part of the battery.

  • Lift up on the silver ends of the black flex cable to disconnect it from the back of the Kindle.

  • Completely remove the black flex cable from the battery and set it in a secure place.

Edit Step 9  ¶ 

  • Do not remove the orange film.

  • Lift the silver end of the orange film to disconnect it from the back of the Kindle.

Edit Step 10  ¶ 

  • Remove the battery by using the flat end of the spudger. Start at the back end of the battery.

    • Excessive force on battery will cause the battery to bend and could eventually malfunction, break, or "crack."

  • Move the spudger along each side of the battery and continue to pry with equal force.

    • Continue to push the spudger further between the battery and the Kindle to fully detach.

  • Once half of the battery is detached, pry the other half in the same manner.

To reassemble your device, follow these instructions in reverse order.
