Remove the ribbon cable that attaches the battery to the logic board. If the brown latch is lifted too high it will detach and the white piece might fall off during later steps.

Add Note Edit Step 1 — Back Case  ¶

  • First, begin by removing the screw cover that is located on the bottom of the device. You will need to stick a small flat-head screwdriver into one side of the cover and gently ease it out. Do the same to the other side until it's worked free.

  • Be very gentle when removing the cover as it's a brittle piece of plastic that will break if forced.

  • Using a small Phillips screwdriver, remove the two 2.6 mm screws that are now exposed.

Add Note Edit Step 2  ¶

  • Using a plastic opening tool, slowly work your way around the device's edge to remove the front plate from the bottom case.

  • Be sure, when prying the device open, to be careful and gentle.

Add Note Edit Step 3  ¶

  • Turn the Zune over so that the screen is facing down. This is to ensure that the battery doesn't fall out and pull on the cable. The battery is not fastened within the case, so be careful.

  • Make sure that you pry up from the bottom, as the headphone jack at the top will not allow you to yank the back off in one tug. You must slide the back piece up and away from the rest of the Zune.

Add Note Edit Step 4  ¶

  • The back case is completely separate from the rest of the Zune. At this point you can replace the back case.

Add Note Edit Step 5 — Battery  ¶

  • With the Zune facing down as pictured, the battery ribbon cable is attached to the bottom right hand side of the logic board.

  • Use the small flat head screw driver to lift the brown clamp.

  • The brown clamp will release the battery ribbon cable from the logic board, freeing the battery.

Add Note Edit Step 6  ¶

  • You can now replace your battery!

  • The battery is a Lithium ion 3.7 V.
