Installing Dell Inspiron 1525 Heat Sink

Replace the heat sink in a Dell Inspirion 1525.

Use this guide to help you replace the heat sink in a Dell Inspirion 1525.

Add Note Edit Step 1 — Battery  ¶ 

  • Locate the battery release switch on the bottom of the laptop.

Add Note Edit Step 2  ¶ 

  • Slide the battery release switch away from the lock symbol until you hear the battery click.

  • Slide the battery towards the back of the laptop until it comes free.

Add Note Edit Step 3  ¶ 

  • Remove the cover that has the heatsink by unscrewing 9 screws highlighted in red

  • These screws are all captive except the screw with a lock by it

Add Note Edit Step 4 — Bottom Cover  ¶ 

  • Remove the eight 4.80 mm Phillips #1 screws securing the bottom panel.

  • Remove the bottom panel.

Add Note Edit Step 5 — Heat Sink  ¶ 

  • Loosen the five #1 Phillips screws securing the heat sink and clean it with compressed air

    • These screws are attached to the heat sink assembly.

  • Gently lift the heat sink from side indicated in the picture.

    • The heat sink may feel like it is glued to the chips because of the thermal paste. Gently wiggle the heat sink back and forth to help break it free.

  • Be sure to thoroughly clean off the old thermal paste and apply new thermal paste before reinstalling the heat sink. Follow our thermal paste application guide for detailed instructions.

Add Note Edit Step 6  ¶ 

  • Now to clean the internal fan in the computer if nessacary

  • To do this, spray canned air into the fan by putting the straw into the holes on the case and blow it out

  • Expect to pay a fair and/or a ID for canned air because kids get high off of it, unless you find a place there it is cheap and does not ID

To reassemble your device, follow these instructions in reverse order.
