Iphone 3g Backlight not working since dissassembly - BFF

Flag Reply by Chinny Mar 15 2009 @ 9:04 AM

Got some water in my iphone 3g. Backlight was working fine at this point. Took the phone apart to help it dry faster. After reassembly the backlight will no longer come on.

I'm not sure if there's a sensor problem or anything, but I'm somewhat out of ideas. I know the water dmg didn't do anything to the screen itself since the backlight was working fine until I dissassembled it. I'm thinking it might be a problem with the ribbon or sensor?

Any help would be appreciated

Normally I re-disassemble them and then put them back together again very carefully. I find that reassembly does not always go quite as planned, so am used to just redoing the take apart. It almost always works.

Have you tried adjusting the brightness setting? The same thing happened to me (getting it wet) and when I plugged it in after reassembly the backlight wasn't working, but adjusting the brightness seemed to have jogged it into working again.

I dropped my Iphone in my coffee this morning...crazy I know! Everything seems to be working but the backlight went out or is very dim....any suggestions? I'm afraid to take it apart...don't know how anyway! Tell me how?

thanks

Choose your phone and have fun. Each guide also has links to the tools mentioned in the guide. If you do not have the tools, you can get them from this site. I have bought many tools here and have never been dissatisfied, so it's safe. : )

I have the same problem. Phone was wet for a week. I took it apart and cleaned the connectors with rubbing alcohol and put it all back together. Now I can see the screen and I was able to reload the software, but the backlight doesn't work and neither does the speaker. I'm not surprised about the speaker, but after reading around, it sounds like the backlight is a regular occurrence, but one person said they bought another screen and it still doesn't work, so I don't want to invest in a new screen if that won't fix it.

its not the display screen, the connector on mine was bad so i bought a new screen, also replaced the proximity sensors, really thought that would fix it. my old proxi flex cable had a blown trace, but after replacing still no brightness.

My iPhone 3GS got wet “really bad”, gladly it was out of battery. I left it on heater overnight. I charged it in the morning and worked great but on line of horizontal pixels burned. After a day back light was working on and off. Opened, cleaned the connections and put it back. It worked fine and I could deal with the line. After a week the back light went off and never came back on. I ordered a new LCD thinking it would help but no luck. The line is gone but I don’t have a back light. (SO if LCD works don’t change it)

I have heard that replacing the full front panel would fix it, but I doubt that. The sensor should not the issue.

I assume it is either software or the backlight switch. I am going to back up my info and re-blast the phone.

It would fix the software issue if there is any.

if it is not fix I am SOL.
