Why doesnt iFixit do the Mac Mini?

Yeah, that'd be really cool! I really want to know, whether the processor can be removed and changed in the new mini just like in the old ones.

We're doing a Mac Mini disassembly now.

you do do the disassembly for macmini, and it's very, very helpful.

However macmini is not listed in the step by step guides to replace hard drives or RAM.

I agree that the disassembly gives you enough info to replace RAM or the HDD, but at first glance it does appear that you don't do the guides.

We do have guides for the original, Mac Mini (PowerPC). But you're right, we don't have guides for anything since that. We never got around to making guides for the last generation of Mini. If there is enough demand, it's possible we could reconsider.

I'd be VERY interested in guides for the Intel Core Solo mini!

Mine had HUGE issues (a broken RAM module, grazed wires on the motherboard, broken ribon cables, dents, scratches, etc) but still works and I'd love some upgrade guides. I'm not in a position to buy a new one (especially since they upped the price £100 here in the UK!) so guides for the old one would be great. I think the Core Solo and Core2Duo models are pretty much the same other than the processors.

Me too. Intel Core Solo! I'd like to install a bigger HD. Also, any idea's on how to enable this machine to use PLEX and play MKV's smoothly? Faster cpu? Videocard?

Hi everyone,

I was about to post a long request for help but found the part I needed and learned I didn't have many options except replacing the part (Apple 820-1925-A, Apple Intel Mini interconnect board). I did and found several for sale at about $50 plus shipping/tax. Ordered from WeLoveMacs.com since they're just down in Santa Clara and I'm in SF.

And I found a terrific post on eBay from a guy with this part for sale who explains how to avoid the damage I caused - the ribbon cable goes to the little sound card, FWIW. Wish I could have bought from this guy since he did such an over-the-top job of explaining - but he's a few days more shipping from me. See his posting at:

http://cgi.ebay.com/Apple-Intel-Mini-InterConnect-Board-NEW-Part-%23-820-1925_W0QQitemZ220375009778QQcmdZViewItem... if you're interested.

This guy says it's not really possible to fix this problem with the connector, but I put the ribbon cable in the connector and then cut a couple of pieces of flat plastic packaging material small enough to fit into the front of the connector and hold it in. Since this machine is pretty much a test box I decided to spend the money on something else instead of the part plus the only thing that might fail if the ribbon cable comes out again is sound, so no biggie. I first thought the cable went to the SATA devices.

Hope this helps someone else.

Rob

I bought a new Mini Mac and did the upgrade myself of memory and the hard disk. It went OK, but it was hard to get some leverage on the memory chips. It all went well, but when I snapped it back together, one of the small black corner screws fell out! Oh, well, try it anyway. It works fine! I saved the screw and may install if I ever have to go into it again. I just didn't have a magnetic screwdiver that fit into that corner! Thanks for your great breakdown article!

I've managed to inadvertantly disconnect both the airport and bluetooth connectors, and have no clue which part plugs in where. Also, in the front, there is a connector that appears to be a ground, and no clue where it goes. Any help. guys?

A guy named Mark Hoekstra Had a blog about replacing the mini har drive with a solid state drive. He died but I can not find what kind of drive he meant. His site is gone now but there was not much info on it. Any one know what will work. I have replaced the battery so I know how to take a mini apart.
