In order to make major repairs, it is important to get inside the computer. By removing the top panel, you can later repair the fan, etc;

Add Note Edit Step 1 — Battery  ¶ 

  • With the laptop placed upside down, locate the "Battery Release" button. It has a little "Padlock" symbol next to it.

  • Slide the "Battery Release" button toward the padlock symbol and hold it there. Note:- The button is spring loaded and will return if released.

  • Gently extract the battery from the side of the laptop

Add Note Edit Step 2 — Removing the Top Panel  ¶ 

  • Tilt the computer screen all the way back until you can easily access the power panel.

  • Use the plastic prying tool to gently pry the panel off.

  • Next, locate the four Phillips screws on the keyboard and remove the screws using a #00 Phillips screwdriver.

  • Lift the keyboard up and disconnect the white cable underneath to remove the keyboard completely.

  • Once the keyboard is removed, you will see the metal EMI shield.

  • Remove one Phillips screw.

  • Take off the panel.

  • Once the metal EMI shield is removed, you will see the data display cable attached to the remaining panel.

  • Remove this cable by simply, but gently, pulling straight up on the tab.

Add Note Edit Step 6  ¶ 

  • Next, to remove the screen, locate the two hinges beneath the LCD panel.

  • Remove the four screws that secure the hinges, and remove the screen by pulling perpendicularly to the computer body (straight up).

Add Note Edit Step 7  ¶ 

  • Now to remove the remaining panel, locate these screws:

    • 2 on the back edge of the laptop

    • 2 right below the screen

    • 16 on the bottom side of the laptop

  • Unscrew all of these, but remember to place them in labeled bags, so as not to confuse them.

Add Note Edit Step 8  ¶ 

  • Once these are off, gently lift up the upper panel.

  • Lastly, unplug the white cable located underneath the mouse pad.

To reassemble your device, follow these instructions in reverse order.
