Add Note Edit Step 2  ¶

  • Use your fingernail to get underneath the battery cover latch. Proceed to remove the battery cover.

    • Be careful as this type of spring-clip is part of the cover itself and can break easily.

    • The plastic tabs at the bottom of the cover and the corresponding slots on the GameBoy unit must line up during re-assembly.

Add Note Edit Step 3  ¶

  • Remove each battery. Prying outward from the positive (+) terminal is the easiest way.

    • Do not dispose of used batteries with standard waste. Please refer to your local recycling department for proper disposal instructions of used batteries.

Add Note Edit Step 4  ¶

  • Pay close attention to the proper orientation of the batteries prior to insertion. This is clearly labeled inside the compartment.

  • After fresh AA alkaline batteries have been inserted correctly, replace the battery compartment cover with care.

Add Note Edit Step 5 — Outer Case  ¶

  • Remove the 6 screws on the back of the Game Boy system with a #00 Phillips Screw Driver.

    • Some Game Boys may have tri-wing screws securing the back case, rather than Phillips.

  • Place these screws in a safe place.

  • Be careful with these screws as they are easy to strip, and if this happens then they are almost impossible to remove.

Add Note Edit Step 6  ¶

  • Gently separate the front and back of the system, taking special care not to damage the ribbon cable connecting them.

  • Once you can see the ribbon cable, move the screen side down a little bit to expose the ribbon cable connector.

Add Note Edit Step 7  ¶

  • Grip the ribbon connector with your thumb and forefinger, pulling gently until the ribbon connector comes out of its socket.
