This teardown is not a repair guide. To repair your Ninja Foodi FD401, use our service manual.

  1. Delete Ninja Foodi FD401 Air Fryer Errors, Remove screws under handle: step 1, image 1 of 1
    • These screws are located under the left handle, under a plastic cover that will need to be pried open. You should be able to use a Phillips #2 for these.

  2. Delete Ninja Foodi FD401 Air Fryer Errors, Remove screws on the bottom: step 2, image 1 of 1
    • For the three screws at the bottom you will need a Phillips #2 driver.

    • You will need a T10 security driver for the small panel in the middle.

    • I don't have pictures of this step at this moment, you should see a white control board and have access to the hinge mechanism.

    • Again, no pictures at this time, there will be a solid hinge pin that you will need to tap your screwdriver through and remove with a pair of plyers.

    • At this point you will only have the wires keeping the lid attached to the unit, you can cut these wires, leaving enough wire coming from the control board to manipulate as needed.

    • There should be at least four wires of different colors.

    • Green Striped - Ground for Element and fan.

    • Red - Power for element and motor.

    • Blue - Power/Reverse for element and motor.

    • Black - 2 of the same small gauge black wires. (these are important in the next step)

    • The best guide out there for this at this time is a YouTube video I found on the process.

    • The only deviation is that you will need to cut the wires to the element, then remove the whole assembly from the plastic lid.

    • In this video, you should see the metal probe, take note of its location, you will need to pull it out and salvage this part.

    • Reconnect the metal probe. Wrap this piece up in electrical tape and it will fit back in the cavity in front of the electronics board.

    • Connect the blue wire to the red wire and secure this with a wire nut and then secure that with electrical tape.

    • The green wire should just be cut and terminated, cover it an insulator or electrical tape.

    • Go in reverse order of step 1 and 2 to put the covers back on.

    • At this point once everything is back together, you can cut the ends of the hinge springs with diagonal cutters.
