I dropped my g3 ibook the other day.

Alright I accidentally dropped my g3 ibook the other day and the screen went black. Sometimes the screen will come back up however, it's just a blue screen. Can anyone help me identify the problem. I have one of the older g3 with the reset button and 2 USB ports 12 inch screen. Thanks in advanced.

Try connecting an external monitor to the port on the side. If you get good video the system is working but something was broken in the LCD. If you get no video then you may have broken the logic board and you get to upgrade to a new(er) book. :-)

The screen comes on sometime and I hear it loading. How do I hook it up to an external monitor?

There should be a port on the left side of the notebook that you can plug into. It may require an adapter, but they all have a video out port you can use. Usually it is marked with a square that has a vertical line on each side.

Okay I will try that when I get home I'm not to sure about this computer stuff. What kind of cord would I need?

You need a mini-VGA to VGA adapter, something like this one.

If an external display works, you need a replacement for your built-in screen. Available at ifixit. If the blue screen continues, your hard drive may need re-imaging or replacing. We've had this issue before, a blue screen, 9 times out of 10 it's the hard drive. Once, it's been the logic board.

if it boots to the install disk, than there may be a problem with the hard drive, but in my powermac G4, this happened, and changing the graphics card solved the problem,
