Powerbook 15" modded for MagSafe Power Supply?

Reply by Waffle

Has anyone successfully modded a 15" powerbook for use with a magsafe power supply?

Waste of time.

You're a waste of time.

This should be easy.

Take 1 magsense jack: http://shop.ebay.com/?_from=R40&_trksid=...

a magsense pinout: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MagSafe#Pin...

and a dash of powerbook pinout: http://screaminglight.com/projects/techn...

Then throw in a spliced magsense cable to the psu and you've got a recipe for success under 50 bucks. (made need to break out a dremel on the case too.)

hope this helps!

Reply back here after you've fried your laptop. Then we'll see who is a waste of time.

Lol. You're so funny!

I'm sorry but I've read some of your posts and I think you need a little more technical/electrical expertise before you offer advice on such subjects, let alone shoot them down outright. (especially on such a cool idea!)

I would do this mod to either of the two powerbooks sitting in front of me but one is a customer's and the other is listed on ebay, so I'll have to wait until I fix another one. But I promise that I will come back and do this mod just for you ;)

I would respectfully suggest the OP consider three things before starting this project.

1. Do I have the necessary skill level to do this.

2. Am I willing to accept the loss of my computer if I mess up

3. I never plan to sell or trade this unit because its value will decrease for any company or average user.

If the answers are yes then go for it and I certainly wish you good luck with the project. Ralph

You do that. I'll laugh hard and point when you blow it up. Of course, you'll lie and say you did it so we'll never really know.

This soft of modding should only be done by highly skilled people with systems that can easily be spared if / when they blow it up. Even skilled modders fry machines. Recommending to someone to do this sort of mod is the height of irresponsibility, so your evaluation of my expertise is laughable.

No offense to Waffle, but anyone that asks on here (instead of a Mac modding site) how to do something like that most likely does not have the skillset to do this mod. Otherwise they would have already found the information on their own and done it. I don't try to be offensive, but I call em how I see em and sometimes it comes out that way. Since I'm not staff here I don't really have to worry about it, now do I?

what about some sort of an external small adaptor? one that goes into the powerbook barrel and on the other end has a magsafe adaptor it can be small and still serve its purpose. if it doesnt blow up you could just sell the powerbook without it when your done with it. i want to do that with my powerbook but im not sure how to solder and not blow things up.
