Is there a list of shops for hire here? (for when the job is too daunting)

Reply by henryk

I was all psyched to repair my girlfriend's Macbook LCD screen until I clicked through all of the steps. Maybe it's not as difficult as it might seem at first blush, but I think a great addition to this site would be a directory of shops or even individuals-for-hire.

This site is genius in linking to the necessary tools for any given job. Like, what is a Torx screwdriver and where can I get.....ohhhh I can click that link right there and buy one right now! Nice.

But my userflow goes like this. Alright, let's see how we can fix this LCD screen......ok not bad....uh huh.....ummmmmm.......do I really trust myself to not F this up somehow? I think I need to find someone else to do this for me........ and that's where links or localized directories to those people or shops would come in perfect for me.

That would be a cool feature, indeed.

Although the DIY method is a GREAT business model, to quote you: "i can... and buy one right now!"

Sarabian's right, that would be cool. One of our goals with the reputation system in Answers is to recognize experts who give back to the community, and connect people like henryk with them. Apple has a nifty service center locator that will point you to the closest authorized location near you. Independent repair techs are always a great way to go if you can find a personal recommendation.
