iBook G4 Slow Startup

Reply by Soptec

Hi everyone, I have this issue, A friend computer iBook G4 1.2 Ghz Power PC, 512 RAM with Mac OS X 10.2.8

First : Very Slow to Startup and show the Desktop about 10 Mins, then the Desktop it´s Loaded and you can work on it, but very slow in all tasks(open files or browse internet with safari for example).

Second: I think to upgrade to Tiger(10.4), but when I´m trying to start from the internal DVD Drive, The Computer Freeze and I can´t work on it, I´m trying to boot up from a External USB DVD Drive(work fine before in other cases), but I have the same problem, when the Language Select option appear to select the language option , the computer go to freeze.

Some Advice to attack the problem. Could be a HDD Problem?

Thanks for your comments.

Sincerely Edgard B.

How much free space on the HD? you need about 20% e.g. a 40GB drive should always have 8GB free space for VRAM and Temp Files etc. ...

ALso deleting preferences and caches can help, sometimes its'a corrupt pref, cache or font.

Good Luck,

N.
