Computer type? Are the lines Horizontal or Vertical? One or two or lots?

Lines across the screen could mean you damaged the edges of the display, or the graphics chip.

computer type = 1.5 ghz aluminum 12" powerbook G4.

the lines are horizontal. many lines. i used an ifixit guide to replace the hard drive. is the graphics chip something i disconnected on my way to the hard drive?

Is the screen lose or tight on the clutches (hinges)? It might be a display cable or the display its self. Does moving/touching the display have any effect on the problem?

If so it could be either, if not then it's more likely the chip.
