Water-Sugar Damage HELP!!!!

Flag Reply by HotDogGuy Nov 17 2009 @ 12:27 AM

I own a black macbook with the 2.16. My daughter dropped a freezie on the keyboard. I cleaned it with an alcohol wipe and the keyboard died. Track pad still works. Charger won't. Intermittent restarts and long beeps.

Day One - Took it to the Mac Store. They told me it was a faulty logic board...$640.00 plus $105.00 diagnostic. Left immediately.

Day Two - Put it on a shelf upside down...waiting...

Day Three - rebooted - keyboard is working again..sort of...still no charging to battery but little green light is on now.

Day Four - What to do next? I want to dismantle the keyboard and clean is with isopropyl alcohol and see if that works. Any suggestions? Oh yeah...upgraded to a 320 gig HD. If I can fix it, I will install a 500 gig.

You need to clean INSIDE the mackbook NOW - there's nothing between the keys and the guts of the computer but AIR! The sticky sugary mess will cause corrosion. NO POWER (pull the battery too) You can use electrical contact cleaner and and old tooth brush, followed up by the 99% alcohol to speed drying. Hopefully there's nothing UNDER the logic board but the only way to know is to remove it and check/clean the back.

Good Luck,

N
