Screw stuck in Macbook Pro Alu body!

Reply by RMK

Hi,

My english isent that good, but i hope i can explain my problem anyways:

Yesterday i preformed an upgrade on my 15" macbook pro, removing the alu body and all.

One the right side of the Mac you can connect an external monitor and there are two little holes to screw the monitor cable in place. Right next to the two holes are a hole for a screw that holes the alu casing (or body) in place. When i reassembled the mac i accidently screwed a small phillips screw in the hole for the monitor instead of the hole for the body! Doh! Now the ^@#! thing is stuck in the wrong hole and i can't get it out.

I've tried hard to get it out, but it's like the screw can get a grib in the socket and therefor i can't screw it out.

Is there anyway to reverse the damage i've caused?

Any help will be much apperciated!

Thank you.

Could you enter a very small flat screwdriver under the screw head and apply pressure and torsion while unscrewing the screw with the phillips screwdriver ?

another solution could be to glue (with super glue) something small to the screw head and when the glue is thigh pull the screw and unscrew it. You need to be able to pull the screw out a bit before unscrewing it ? Am I right ?

There isent any room under the screw head, so i cant enter anything under it.

Well the screw i basicily just spinning in the socket like it can't get a grib in there.

Maybe your second solution could work, but can i get the glue off again? Els i might risk damaging the screw head

Thank you for the assistance!

Could you use a magnet to pull the screw enough to try my first solution ? Also I don't remember what the DVI video socket looks like from the interior of the case but maybe you could reach the screw from there. Anyone has an open case to check it out ?

I've accidentally done this a few times, unfortunately the best method is to remove the logic board and take the screws out. - minimizes risk of damaging the case and/or logic board.

I agree with Matthew you have to dismantle the case to get the board to move so you can grab the screw, else you'll damage the board/port.

Good Luck,

N.

I thought for sure I had to be the only person who "screwed" up and did this. I don't want to remove the entire logic board. I can only imagine how I'd mess that up. I've tried the magnet. Next I'll try the glue. Update later. Thanks for the idea.

I'm not worried about the case much since this old MBP is my Frankenstein.

I have solved it!!!!

I did the same thing, I was pulling my hair trying to solve it! Here's the solution:

Go to local CVS / Supermarket

Purchase $2 glasses repair kit

Use small screwdriver to rapidly turn the screw counterclockwise... and voila!

No logicboard removal crap

After spending 2 hours trying to get it out, I took a drill and found a bit a little bigger than the opening, and opened up the whole in the casing a bit. May have been a bit crazy, but it popped right out. The screw was fine and I can still use the port just fine.
