Pismo PowerBook Won't Turn On

Reply by TommyJames337

Howdy all!

I have a Pismo PowerBook G3, and a few months ago, it would turn on perfectly well. But now, nothing at all happens when I go to try and start it. I suspect that it might be a bad DC-in board, but it could also be a logic board failure. What do you all think? Even when I put a charged battery from my Lombard in it, nothing happens.

Normally, when Pismos get power to them, their green light is supposed to come on for a couple of seconds. It doesn't do that now when I put the battery or the charger in. Does that help? Thanks so much!

The first thing to try on a Pismo is to disconnect the pram battery. If the PRAM battery is bad it will keep a Pismo from booting. If this clears your problem you can either replace the battery or leave it disconnected--it won't hurt anything except you will have to reset the time when you turn the computer on. Ralph

If the rj713 solution doesn't work you may try to unsnap the processor card and reseat it in his socket.

It worked!!! Thanks so much, guys! It seems like such an unnecessary issue. I wonder why it does that? I don't think the Lombard does . . . .

Great Tommy but for the benefit of the readers could you specify what was the problem ?

Well, if you look above, you can easily see what the problem was.

The Pismo PowerBook wouldn't start up. It wouldn't make any sounds or motion to suggest that it was at all alive. But rj713 told me to unplug the PRAM battery, and it instantly turned on. Wonderful!
