My iBook has developed a fault with it's screen - everything works perfectly providing the screen is not opened more then about 90 degrees from the keyboard. If it is opened more then this, the screen goes completely blank (it's not the light, the lcd goes off completely). The screen comes on again if the screen is closed a little again (so it's 90 degrees or less). Has anyone come across this problem before and can suggest what may be wrong?

The Inverter cable needs to be replaced.

While you're in there lube the hinges on the clutches.

As matthewfrey says the inverter cable (well in your case it's the reed switch cable who's a part of the inverter cable assy in the ibook) is probably cut in the hinge and only makes contact when you change the display angle. My advice: don't move the display when the ibook is powered until your replace the cable cause the faulty cable could short in the hinge a blow the microfuse on the motherboard that protects the inverter circuitry. It's easier and cheaper to replace the inverter cable than the motherboard. When you order the inverter cable make sur that the reed switch cable is included in the purchase.

Thanks guys, what I suspected. New lead ordered. I guess I might as well upgrade the hard drive at the same time as I'm going to have to take the whole thing appart to fix it?!

The LCD display also need to be taken apart to replace the inverter/reed switch cable.
