Hi guys,

first post here. I am trying to Replace my Hard Disk in an iMac Intel Late 2006. I just read your very useful post. Here a part of the process i have some doubts.

http://www.ifixit.com/Guide/Repair/iMac-Intel-20-Inch-EMC-2105-and-2118-Hard-Drive-Replacement/1092/4

Step 11 - "During reassembly, it is helpful to use several small strips of tape to hold the EMI shielding along the left and right edges of the display footprint out of the way before lowering the display into the rear case of your iMac."

What kind of tape should i use to hold the EMI shielding? it is a special tape for that? I do not know if the EMI get hot or not?

Thanks for any data,

Cheers,

First off the machine should be unplugged during dismantle/instal/reassemble! You can connect the power and do a test boot without sealing everything up (always a good idea) So there should be no problem with any tape as you are only taping to get the old drive out and the new drive in.

Good Luckk

Thanks for the good info Machead3, i like your hat by the way. I never thought of doing a test boot while the machine is dismantled, that is a good tip. I think i will have to ground myself first to avoid static, is that right?

I have some doubts of using any kind of tape for the EMI shielding, but since you say any kind will be right, no problem now.

Grounding is always a good idea - if the power plug has a ground you can leave it plugged in, and just touch the case/frame so you're at the same potential as the machine.

If you don't move around you don't have to bother with a strap.

Good Luck,

N.

The tape is simply to hold the EMI shielding along the left and right edges of the display out of the way before lowering the display into the rear case of your iMac. No special tape is required, you can simply use scotch tape.

Thanks for the tip. I watched a good video tutorial as well on opening the iMac 20" and it is kind of tricky not to let any of the EMI shielding came off after closing the case. I don´t know why they make the iMac late 2006 even more difficult than the G5 version to replace the internal HD. I was watching another video on the Aluminium series and it is even more difficult! Ive and Jobs seems does not like handy mans on its designs.

Cheers,

S
