iBook G4 Airport Not Recognized

Flag Reply by juliussvoboda Nov 3 @ 7:58 AM

I recently had issues with my airport card (it was making my computer freeze) in my iBook G4, so I took it out and put in a new card. But for some unknown reason my iBook won't recognize the new card! I ran Apple Hardware's quick and full scan of my system and everything is working fine...except it says that my there is no airport card. I've reopened my computer three times now to make sure that it was seated correctly (i.e. I pushed on it real hard to make sure it's in the socket), but still nothing. Does anyone have any ideas or advice?

Is it Airport Extreme and does it meet all the requirements?

Make sure that it is connected to the logic board as well as to the lead for the antenna firmly

It is an airport extreme, but I'm not sure what you mean by meeting all the requirements. It's an Apple product and sure looks like the broken one I took out. Are there other requirements that I should know about? Thanks for responding, I'm just at such a loss on what to do...

Is your iBook G4 a 12" 1.33Ghz model or a 14" 1.42Ghz model ? These ibooks motherboards (most of the time the 1.33) have a problem with the airport socket. It's a well documented issue on the web. The airport/bluethoot socket has a flaw causing kernal panicks events and often not recongnising the card. Many people tried to repair the ibook inserting a small folded piece of paper under the grey plastic bracket screwed on the airport card to put more pressure on the card connection but the repair don't last very long so replacing the motherboard seems to be the only way to do the repair. You may also take off the AP card and use a wireless USB dongle available for cheap online.
