Mac Book Pro 2.6 Core Duo - late 2007

Reply by jasonpan

I have a Mac Book Pro 2.6 Core Duo - late 2007, the one just before the uni-body.

I come to turn on this am, I hear the start-up sound but nothing on the screen. I tried all 3 or 4 steps suggested on the apple site (e.g. take the battery out and press the power button for 5 sec, hold command & option keys while switching on, etc etc). But nothing works, I have taken it to my local apple store, they tried something but did not come right, he said he could access the HDD and see all the files, but now has to send it away.

I am thinking its the graphics card, does anyone have any ideas? And is my graphics card a seperate card or intergrated into the logicboard? If intergrated, does anyone know a ballpark figure on a replacement, even if there are any avaiable.

Thanks a mil in advance.

Jason

I agree with graphics card. - yes, part of logic board, replacement should be free - Apple has a special coverage program for the defective chips made by Nvidia.

free even if out of warranty? Do you have a link to the document on this special coverage program?

Three years from date of purchase, AppleCare or no

I had a friend who registered their machine and was never contacted (they claim)- if you missed this by less than a month I'd go in to the genius bar and start talking real loud, worked for them.

Good luck,

N.

The computer isn't covered by the known nvidia issue. http://support.apple.com/kb/TS2377 You should get it repaired by Apple because it will be a lot less than the cost of a logic board. You are looking at $310 for the repair. Don't do what machead said, you will not get it covered and just look like an !&!. Goodluck! 

Just to update everyone and complete this thread.

They replaced my logic board free of charge, so this sort of thing is covered by the extended warranty. I am just waiting for them to get back to me with the length of the cover for this replacement board.

But she is back and working like a bomb :)

Thanks Apple.
