MacBook 13" won't stay powered up..

Reply by Russ46

My daughter's twins "helped mommy" and washed her laptop using spray bottles. She says the display was closed. I replaced the keyboard which was damaged by me. (I pulled too hard on the plug and ribbon cable). The hard drive seems to be okay because I ran it in another MacBook 13 with no problems.

The symptoms are: Press the power button. Silver screen, then black screen, plays the audio chord sound, silver screen again, apple logo and worm chasing it's tail, blue screen, black screen. It is stuck there. The little white led on the front edge is glowing in and out as in sleep mode.

Once in a while I can coax it out of the black screen and it shows the desktop disply, but only for about 1 second. It acts like it is constantly trying to go into sleep mode.

Does anyone have any suggestions of what I should try to swap out next? I have an identical laptop that I can use to swap parts for diagnostic purpose.

I would try replacing the logic board, if you are up to the challenge :)

I was afraid that would be the next "logical" step (pardon the pun). I think you are right. Well, here goes... wish me luck.

Did you remove and cleane the RAM/RAM slots when you had the keyboard off?

Corrosion on the connectors could cause the failure.

Good Luck

No, I replugged them several times. I will have another look and give them a "cleaning".

I had a macbook with the same symptoms after a liquid spill. The unit was always going to sleep but worked well if connected to an external monitor. Also, the battery was not recognised and the iSight was not working. I found a shop in Toronto (Canada) that repaired the motherboard for $200.
