Replacing screen on 12" iBook 1.2G

Reply by JimDaKlutz

OK,

I'm really not a klutz except when I used the iBook as a tire stop and almost ran over it. Screen damaged but everything else works OK (interesting broken glass pattern).

The web site says replacing the screen is "very difficult". I replaced the mid-plane on our iMac G5. Is it more difficult than that? If not, I can do it.

What special tools do I need and can I get everything I need here?

I figure if I can fix it myself I'll save at least $200. going rate is $300.

Any advice appreciated.

Thanks,

Jim

actually replacing the display on an Ibook is very easy.. take the back cover off, remove old display, install new display, put back cover on..

I'm with Sunrisetech, it's really not difficult at all.

You'll need a T6 torx tip screwdriver and a #0 phillips screw driver and something thin and flat to (gently) pry the plastic cover open,

It's only 8 screws total, you can do it in half an hour easy.

Thanks sunristech and marucucco,

Time to order my screen and I need a new putty knife anyway!

Next project is figuring out why my imac processor is getting to hot. Blew out air chanels with compressed air but there may be a recalcitrant hairball beteween the air intake and heat sink

My iMac does that too.

It would shut itself down when running games.

I checked to be sure all the little fans were running, then down-loaded smcFanControl, problem solved.

Thanks marcucco.

The compressed air worked a little bit but sounds like the smc fan control will complete the job.
