I'm trying to fix a friends iPod. Its a black 30GB model with the click wheel. The model number on the "About" screen shows: MA446ZP
The play/pause button doesnt seem to work. When I choose a song, it shows the playback icon in the top left but the counter stays at 0:00. I have already reset the device, ran the diagnostics and all tests passed. My question now is what the best thing to do, replace the logic board or just replace the click wheel first??? I have a feeling its the logic board. I opened it up and there seems to be some kind of acid like substance on the logic board near the play/pause button. It almost looks like the film a battery leaves behind that has been leaking. Thanks for your help.
