Hi, Wow that is awesome! Those aren't easy jobs you did either! Way to go!
So you are planning on upgrading the drive in your powerbook and want to know if it will work in the clamshell?
Well, yes I believe it would work. I am pretty sure the ultra ATA is backwards compatible with ATA. If I am wrong hopefully someone will correct me.
But then will you be using the clamshell?
I have this feeling you won't with the much faster powerbook.
If it were me I would pick up a small working drive to replace 'the tracktor' LOL!
I would then burn the files that I want to save (and are filling up the 80 gig) onto disk, erase the drive, then put it in an slim external USB or firewire enclosure and use it for storage. Sounds like you need lots of storage!
You don't need any system software on it for storage. It will just pop up on the desktop as a icon when connected and when you save files just choose that drive.
For your powerbook upgrade most any ATA/UATA 2.5" drive will work. They basically come in two speeds like 5400 and 7200 (faster) I prefer Seagate because they are So Quiet. Just don't get a third party unknown brand.
The powerbook hard drive replacement will be easy for you compared to working on a clamshell!
Sounds to me like you are just one of those people that 'get it' when it comes to computers. My mom is like that too and your age. So funny when you realize it. Even funnier when you realize most people Don't!
