I have a heavely used iBook G4 12" that turns-off like if it has run out of power as soon as it has booted up and loaded the desk-top. It's not the battery, that works (I think) and so does the power cable but the cable has been damaged & repaired. I don't want to spend very much (<$60) on repair. Suggestions?

You can find powercables on ebay for 12 dollars.
But, it may not be your Power Supply, try taking the battery out, and leaving it plugged in, and then starting up. Or leave the battery in, charge it as much as possible and try starting up. This will reduce your (i think) lol, and will help you decide what part your going to need.
heres a link to a new charger, this should help you.
:)
Good luck, email me/reply if you need some help.

Nope, no use. Still dies when the desktop loads no matter what the power arrangements are. Could it be anything that is NOT the logic board? I suspected the DC addapter but that isn't the problem, unless that deals with power from both the battery and cable. The previous owner suggests that the "internal power supply" would be the the fault but that's a guess as neither of us know whether that part actually exists.
What does the batttery connect directly to?

Have you tried putting it into "external drive" mode to see if it will stay up that way?
Also, have you checked the vents to see they're clogged with lint/dust?

i am having almost the same problem with a macbook pro. the fan was quite noisy, so i took it apart and cleaned it. could the fans not working properly cause it to shut down.

Thanks, the fan was the problem. If you're intrested I took apart the laptop suffecently to access the fan but found that it wasn't plugged in all the way, I fixed that and it lasted a bit longer but it still swiched off. I tried to remove the fan to fix it but one of the screws was too tight to remove. Instead I just attacked the fan with a powerful vacume cleaner and now the computer works fine. However the screen was very dark at first (like if the back light wasn't working) but a restart fixed that.
It works fine now.

It's broken in the same way now.
When booted it spins its fan like mad but quickly stops. The fan doesn't restart so is the fan broken or is the thing that tells the fan to spin? Or more genrally: Is the fan the problem?
