ibook G4

Reply by sickD

My iBook G4 has suddenly started going to black screen. The computer is still on with apple light on cover still on. I have to shut down and restart then everything is fine, except sometimes I get a noisy whirring fan instead of a start-up and have to disconnect power or battery then restart again.

I have tried the 'Shunt' repair and things seemed better for a while but gradually (maybe a day or two)things returned to the original problem of black screen. My computer seems fine for about 15 to 20 minutes then more black screen. Please help!

Maybe you have a bunch of lint and dust in the cooling vents and the laptop is overheating. With the laptop off, take a vacuum hose right up to the cooling vents and then see if it runs better.

It sounds like your getting the iBook Video Chip. They were really common to go out and quick working, sometimes, pressing hard on the left side of your trackpad, will cause the screen to come back on, and some people stick something under there to keep pressure on it. It is actually coming unsoldered from your logic board.

THANK YOU VERY MUCH Jesse714 !!!!!!!

My ibook G4 worked great since I Bought it in 2004 and one month ago, I gave it to my brother as a replacement of his macbook behing repaired. He gave it back to me like that: black screen, no start up sound, fan turning as %#$*.

I've been trying all the adviced procedures since then (PMU, NVRAM, Target mode, Disassembling ton clean up the dust (which was surprisingly not here). I was going crazy and it is your "crazy remedy" that saved my reborn ibook.

Huge Thanks
