My ibook G4 worked great since I Bought it in 2004 and one month ago, I gave it to my brother as a replacement of his macbook behing repaired. He gave it back to me like that: black screen, no start up sound, fan turning as %#$*.
I've been trying all the adviced procedures since then (PMU, NVRAM, Target mode, Disassembling ton clean up the dust (which was surprisingly not here). I was going crazy and it is your "crazy remedy" that saved my reborn ibook.
